The New Zealand Tea Tree (Leptospermum scoparium) is a leggy tree with lovely pink to deep rose flowers. This and other tea trees were imported about a hundred years ago to help stabilize the sand dunes of San Francisco. The flowers are good bee forage and the resulting honey has antibacterial properties. Info from the Botanical Garden in Golden Gate Park where this specimen grows in the New Zealand section.
