Thanks Belinda. It is a sad picture but at the time it was just for a simple study and Van Gogh was one of the artists I used to learn from.

HI Cheryl! It's painted by Van Gogh entitled 'Old Man in Sorrow (Threshold to Eternity)' and is one of his final paintings. It's emblematic of his life toward the end...I was tempted to paint this too my own way but it's just too sad....When I am in that mood I shall one day...Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Nadine and Bob for featuring my painting!

Cheryl - Great work! Like your version!

Loved this onesie. Actually loved it so much I contacted the designer and had a special request to see if he could change the color of the FJ40 to match a friend of mines actual truck and he was more than willing to do it. So I ordered another onesie.

Artist's Description

This is a painting done after one of the renaissance painter but I do not remember which one. It is a picture of a man who has come to the end and can stand no more of what has happened in life. At the time when I did this I was in college and was trying to learn how to master painting with oils. I can see now that there is much more to this painting than I realized. My late husband suffered from disabilities on and off for the 30 years that we married. When we tried to get him help we were told that he was too disabled and still needed fixed. Another organization told us he wasn't disabled enough to receive help. Eventually he went back to hard labor, the only work he knew. I watched his legs and back slowly deteriorate over 30 years. He became permanently disabled in 2001. That was about 3 years after I did this painting. In college our main course of study was the human form. That is perhaps why I didn't realize the depth of emotion I had painted. To me it appears very raw. I did t...

About Cheryl Pettigrew

I have always done art in some form since childhood. As I grew older, pencil and ink became my favorite mediums. At the age of 30 I discovered paint and a new door opened. I found there to be almost limitless possibilities with color and so my adventure began. I attended Western State College and earned a BFA in fine art. While there I studied the human form and excelled in this subject. After I graduated I continued to work with people but became bored because it seemed like it was limiting. I did not work in any medium for almost 8 yrs. About 4 yrs ago I picked up my brushes and discovered landscapes and seascapes. Out of this I developed my own style and technique. At first my work barely showed the flavor and design that it does now....
