The island of Rotoroa, in the Hauraki Gulf near Auckland New Zealand, is a unique wildlife sanctuary with nature trails, heritage buildings, beautiful beaches and even accommodations. The island is small enough so you can hike nearly all the trails in a day, that is, if you don’t stop for the afternoon to swim or picnic at some of the lovely beaches. The view from the ‘North Tower’ viewpoint shows the lush south Pacific Hauraki islands in all their tropical glory!
