No, they are just the normal tactile hairs (commonly called whiskers) of an adult tiger. In general they are very chaotic and unruly, especially in older males like this fellow. The mystacial whiskers (on the muzzle) are the longest and can reach to around 15 cm. I don't actually go for photorealism or hyperrealism in my artwork. I am more concerned with capturing the essence of the subject without worrying whether I have captured every exact detail. I chose to use a nonrepresetational complementary background for this painting (as I do with most of my portriat work) so as not to distract from the primary subject matter of the peice. Thanks for your comment.

are those lightning bolts or white tree branches sprouting out of his face or could they be whiskers gone terribly wild? also is that a green wool blanket in the background? what is it? everything could be much more detailed to be classified as hyperealism. spend a little more time on it will you? i know time is money but you can't just think about the money.
