"October gave a party:
The leaves by hundreds came-
The Ashes, Oaks and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The sunshine spread a carpet:
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
And Professor Wind, the band" - George Cooper
What a wonderful description of Autumn's colors and beauty! October gave a party...yes, she did and I was invited. I arrived just in time to see the leaves sparkle in the early morning sunlight over the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. The colors were incredible, reds, golds, greens and oranges were all on display on a crisp cold morning.
I was so glad October gave a party!
George Cooper (1840-1927) was an American poet and his poem October's party was part of the school curriculum in the 1950s for third grade students.
