A night view of Portland Head light in Cape Elizabeth, Maine. Built at the directive of George Washington when Maine was still part of Massachusetts, the light was completed in January 1791. It sits at the head of the primary channel within Casco Bay that leads into Portland Harbor. The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1973. Re-imagined and painted in digital oils from a photograph by Steve Hamburg.
