Description

This is an image of the Powder Tower, also known as the Powder Gate (Prašná Brána) in the City of Prague. It is one of the original Gothic city gates in the city, and it separates the Old Town from the New Town. It was intended to be an attractive entrance into the city instead of a defensive tower.

This monumental entrance by which the coronation processions of Czech kings entered the Old Town is one of the most significant monuments of Late Gothic Prague. The Powder Tower was completed in 1475 and formerly served as a gunpowder store. It is still the starting point for the Coronation or Royal Route to the Prague Castle. It has a viewing gallery at a height of 44 m. It is among the most amazing and treasured sights of Prague and is considered to be one of its symbols.

All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
