This parrot tulip is in the spotlight as it opens its frilly and vibrant petals to the light. Other tulips in the arrangement are accompanying the star of the show. Painted with transparent watercolor on a half sheet of Arches 140 lb cold press paper, the rich dark background was created with layers and layers of paint to maintain luminosity, going dark but not black.

In 2012 I qualified to be a signature member of the Northwest Watercolor Society (NWWS). This is earned by being juried into a select number of local chapter and international watercolor society shows sponsored by NWWS. The initials now follow my signature on my paintings.

Watercolor is my medium. I zoom in and compose from my photos to fill a picture plane with a compelling design that takes the viewer into an abstract and sensual world. I look for beautiful transitions of color or textures that could be expressed luminously with my many glazes of watercolor, or that might provide an opportunity for me to try new painting techniques. I paint the inner landscape of flowers calling these works Floralscapes. The shapes, designs and patterns inside flowers and plants are the subject that awakened my love of painting, giving me a chance to create images of stunning beauty while merging realism with an abstract sense of design.
