This piece depicts the Lancaster bombers which flew into Holland at the end of World War II to drop needed food to starving Dutch citizens. This piece shows the planes as they were first spotted by children on the roofs of bombed houses in Rotterdam. Called "Operation Manna" or "Operation Chowhound", bombers from the U.S., Canada, and Britain dropped 6,672 tons of food within Nazi-occupied Holland from April 29th through May 8th, 1945.
