Description
Oscillation is the repetitive variation, typically in time, of some measure about a central value (often a point of equilibrium) or between two or more different states. Familiar examples include a swinging pendulum and AC power. The term vibration is sometimes used more narrowly to mean a mechanical oscillation but sometimes is used to be synonymous with "oscillation". Oscillations occur not only in physical systems but also in biological systems, in human society and the brain.

Interstellar travel on generation ships can be tedious. Decades of darkness. Every 30 years or so, maybe some ion flares glimpsed from beyond a wandering rogue planet. But, Kim, when you look out of the starboard portholes and see a pulsar disambiguating a cloud of Zeta particles that had been a red dwarf only a century before, it makes the whole trip worth it. A superbly narrative image here, no matter what the narrative you derive from it is.vf
