Oxytocin is produced naturally in the bodies of mammals and appears to play a key role in social interaction, sexual attraction, reproduction and child birth. During child birth, oxytocin stimulates contractions of the uterus. It also stimulates the production of milk, and promotes nurturing behaviour in the mother.
