Description
Even those who normally have little interest in aicraft have heard of this plane--the P-51 Mustang. Here's the Mustang dubbed “Grim Reaper.” Along the left side of the fuselage is the symbol of Nazi Germany, the swastika. Whether shooting down Japanese Zeros in the Pacific Theatre or Messerschmitts over Europe, pilots would place one enemy insignia on the fuselage for each kill. Send five enemy aircraft to their grave and you are an “Ace.” The Mustang was already a superior aircraft, but It was the switch to the Rolls Royce Merlin engine that made it the plane that won the war.
