Description
This well camouflaged frog, often found on the forest floor almost buried in the leaf litter, is sometimes called the Pac Man frog. When I researched the Surinam horned frog (Ceratophrys cornuta), I found it described variously as large, bulky, and rotund and as having a voracious appetite. Apparently it will eat just about anything it can squeeze into its mouths which accounts for the nickname in the pet store trade. This particular specimen is a male; females are brown and beige.

Looks beautiful... and.... scary! LOL. No wonder the name. I would hate to be chumped at by this guy. Beautiful capture Nikolyn. Your entire series has been marvelous and impressive.

I read on one site that they are so greedy they have even been found dead with prey too large to swallow still in their mouth - like choked to death, I guess. Yes, chomp, chomp, chomp . . . Thanks for all the nice comments - I'm glad you are enjoying these photos. Lots more to come if I can only find the time to 1) edit and 2) upload LOL
