Description
You can see how I set this still life up for painting. It is a relatively small painting on a desk easel. My pallet is on the desk. I set the still life on a stack of books to get a more pleasing angle.
It is Easter Sunday. It is a very different Easter for the entire world. Because of the COVID 19 pandemic, we are in quarantine We are relegated to staying at home. Home is a safe place for now. I am taking advantage of this by working on my art. I am, also, doing quite a bit more cooking than I have done in a long time.
We are fortunate in that we have some good friends down the street with a garden. They have been kindly providing us with some of their fresh tomatoes. They have so much more flavor than tomatoes from the grocery store! We are especially fond of Caprese Salad. That is a simple salad of tomatoes, mozzarella cheese and balsamic vinegar. This particular day I thought to add some avocado to the salad. I didn't actually put any garlic in the dish but I thought that it would look nice in the composition.
I placed the vegetables on a white cloth on the desk next to my easel. Natural light came in through the glass doors on the right. I didn't try to be realistic or slavish to the background and foreground. I was playing with shapes and colors. I was inspired by the folds of the cloth.

Great capture of a work in progress! Seeing the model is fun too. Nice, rich, peaceful setting.

Very interesting photo of your set-up. L
AnnaJo Vahle replied:
Thank you, Elizabeth. I only use this small table-top easel when I am doing a small painting.

There's something very special about this image. I believe it's the "homey" feeling. As artists we have our painting, palette, and reference image in disarray or orderly. Don't matter. Such a neat composition within a composition! vf mm

LOVE your art gallery and especially like how your studio is set up This was last Easter and it looks like we will spend another Easter a similar way. But we do have some bright stars of vaccines being used but not through out the world, sadly.F/L
