Artist's Description
This painting is a combination of my island memories when I lived in Haiti and Belize. I always loved the happy colors painted on the houses, a stark contrast to the surrounding poverty. The woman with the umbrella is in thanks to the islanders who would caution me to protect my white skin from the hot sun rays.
About Karen Pasquariello
I was born in St. Louis, MO but raised in Washington, PA. I was blessed to be raised in a loving family and we lived in the country where we spent many hours playing outside. I attended an airline school in MO then worked for a short period of time in New York City. I returned to PA where I worked in medical records at Washington Hospital for 6 years. When I was in my early 20's I helped found an organization, Christian World Outreach and when I was 24 I moved to the island of Haiti as a pioneer missionary for 3 years. In Haiti was when I first really began to appreciate art and I started dabbling with sketching. The Haitians are amazing artists and usually paint with bold colors. My memories of those days are depicted in my art work...
