Description
Forest Park Maksimir, the first in South-East Europe, was opened in 1794 at the initiative of Bishop Maksimilijana Vrhovac. In 1839, Bishop Juraj Haulik gave it an editorial in English-style style. Architectural objects are mostly works by the builder Franjo Schücht. In the park of 316 hectares, the flora and fauna of the lowland forests are preserved, and there are five lakes (natural, artificial).
At the south end of the park is the Zoo of Zagreb.
The name of the park also carries a city district that includes the territory of nearby town towns, and the stadium of NK Dinamo.
In the park of Maksimir grows an oak tree known as "Dedek", about 600 years old. It is located near Mogila.
