Patch of purple asters blooming in gorgeous light in late August at Mount Rainier National Park, Paradise, Washington, USA.
Aster is a genus of flowering plants in the family Asteraceae. It now encompasses around 180 species, all but one of which are restricted to Eurasia. Aster alpinus (in this image) is the only species of Aster (sensu stricto) that grows natively in North America. It is found in mountains across the Northern Hemisphere. (Wikipedia)
