Scratchboard rendition of Patches the cat who is very comfortable kneading her blanket. Lots of purple tones in this piece. The image was created by scratching through the black outer layer of a clayboard into white clay. The scratch marks in the white clay were then painted with clayboard inks producing the final image.

I am a scratchboard artist who has enjoyed drawing and painting throughout my life. In the fall of 2001 I was introduced to the scratchboard medium through a course at the University of New Hampshire. I took an immediate liking to this art form as it combines drawing and painting to create three-dimensional effects. Scratchboard art is very detail oriented requiring patience as well as an eye for form, light, and shadow.
