Description
“Pele' Hawaiian Volcano Goddess ” is a mixed-media mosaic on a 74" x 19" repurposed fiberglass surfboard that once rode the waves of “Surf City” Huntington Beach, CA. Rescued from the backyard of one of our esteemed surfers, the deck of the board has been covered with my original design featuring carved mahogany tiles as well as a multitude of seashells, beach glass, semi-precious stones, polymer clay and assorted glass beads and tiles. Pele' slumbers in a magma chamber of red tiles set, grouted and varnished in the traditional manner. Her hands hold the sacred flame that created the Islands. Elements of the lava flow were set directly in thinset in a modern technique that provides a richness and dimension not usually found in mosaics. This a truly fine art and a conversation piece that will grace your home for generations to come.
