Average Rating (5 Stars):

I appreciate the quality. The print was pretty small, so I was surprised it was rolled up and I had to flatten it. It would have been nice if it was flat in an envelope with cardboard support and a clear protective covers (like prints are sold at art shows). I do appreciate that artists have this resource.

I got this card for my sister's birthday and she absolutely loved it! We had our fortunes read by Zoltar Speaks when we were at Circus Circus in Reno, so she was surprised that I was able to find a Zoltar card. The quality was good and the picture was perfect. I would order from this company again!

Artist's Description

Penicillin injection, World War II. Army medical personnel injecting a patient with a dose of the antibiotic drug penicillin. A tray of sterile equipment is at right, with the patient at left. Penicillin had been discovered in 1928, but was not widely used as an antibiotic until its mass production for the US Army in World War II. Use of penicillin by the US Army saved many thousands of lives during the war. This field hospital is on Labuan Island, northern Borneo. The liberation of this island from the Japanese by US and Australian forces began on 10 June 1945, part of the Battle of North Borneo, codenamed Operation Oboe Six. Photographed on 17 June 1945.

About Science Photo Library

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
