Description
Juvenile peregrine falcon on a dry-stone wall. Peregrine falcons (Falco peregrinus) mainly prey on birds in flight, but also occasionally hunt small mammals. They catch birds by diving at speeds of up to 200 kilometres per hour and striking the quarry with their talons, before swooping back up to catch the falling bird. They can reach up to 50 centimetres in length and breed throughout the world except Antarctica. Photographed in April in Surrey, UK.
