Description
Dry African thornbushes surround one of many such hills peppered across very flat terrain north of Gabrone, the capital of Botswana in south central Africa. This hill is in the vicinity of Phakalane and near the home of the Khama dynesty which have ruled here for decades. The red dry earth reminded me of Sedona in northern Arizona in a similar high altitude desert akin to the Sonoras in northern Mexico.
Oppressive and high humidity had me following the shade as much as possible. The feared pofadder snake, one of Africa's most lethal, lives in terrain such as this, a fact that I was very wary of. These typically African colors though, proved irresistable, and suited my impressionist palette.
Red sandy clay breaking through dusty cobalt foliage and dry thorns reflecting the morning light against a blue sky filtered by fast moving clouds. This bit of turf along the Holy Grail, has been baptised, "Enver's corner" by locals who pointed it out to me. Phakalane is famous for it's world champion bike riders, both of them.
