Description
Many, many years ago, when I was in my teens, I had a dream in which I was gazing out across a landscape of rolling hills that glowed pink and gold in the light of a rising or setting sun. Nothing really happened in this dream, I just stared at the scenery, but what mattered was my mood. I felt intensely joyful and at the same time peaceful. There was one time, about ten or fifteen years later, on holiday in Greece, when I was walking alone across an expanse of sand-dunes under a glowing red sunset, and suddenly I thought: "This is the landscape of my dream!" Since then, I have never seen that magical place again, whether in physical reality or in sleep, and the memory stayed buried for years. But a few weeks ago, I was packing up a parcel to send to an address in Oak Grove, Missouri, and the name of the road was "Pink Hill Road". I liked that name a lot. I tried to imagine how the pink hill would look. Suddenly the memory of my dream returned to me, and I decided to paint a picture that might evoke something of my original feelings. Of course, the real place in Greece didn't have silver-leafed trees, but I decided to add those to try and create an atmosphere of magic, as in the landscape of my teenage dream.
