Was looking for a nautical theme print to go with our antique replica of "The Sea Witch". Capt. James Cook was one of the first to make navigational maps! Perfect pairing! We love the quality, the ease of order and the timeliness I which we received him! Thank you and will certainly place more orders......

My husband is the Skipper on the Pacific Viking and my son the engineer. A nice picture for the 'collection.

Artist's Description

False colour scanning electron micrograph of pollen grains of a Marsh Woundwort. The outer walls (exine) have a netted ornamentation. When a pollen grain, containing the male gametes, lands on the stigma of a flower, it germinates. A pollen tube grows out from the pollen grain, down through the stigma, to the ovary. The male nuclei pass down this tube, fertilize the ovules & a seed is formed. Magnification X971 at 35mm size.

About R.e.litchfield

Science Photo Library was founded in 1981 by Michael Marten, one of the authors of "Worlds Within Worlds", a book exploring different ways to observe the universe - from electron micrographs, to images of earthrise taken from the Apollo spacecraft. When Marten started receiving requests for the beautiful images in the book, he had an idea of setting up Science Photo Library. Since then, Science Photo Library has continued to work alongside world acclaimed photographers and the leading science and medical experts to provide a central source of the best science and specialist imagery available. Although the collection started with scientific images, it has grown to encompass all aspects of science and their impact on everyday life.
