The artist is my son and is very talented. In high school he was accepted by Chicago Art Institute but couldn’t afford the tuition. He graduated from Fredonia State University with a Fine Art degree.
The essence of a flower -- the pollen that creates the next generation. Tall shapely stamen burst with golden yellow pollen, against the flaming background of its own petals. The deep throat of the American Indian daylily is vivid yellow, changing to orange-red where the throat joins the petals. The focus in this image is the pollen pads, which curve into the picture on graceful filaments. The backs of the pads are burnished brown; the fronts fuzzy with the yellow powder.
I've always loved looking at nature, drifting along with the ever-changing clouds, stopping to smell the roses. God's creation gives an abundant and ever changing variety of subjects for me to capture. I enjoy photographing all of nature, from the wide vistas of mountains and valleys, right down to spiders, butterflies, and dewdrops. I bought my first camera, a Canon AE-1, in 1979, and practiced and experimented and asked questions. I still ask questions and read blogs; but I've never taken a formal course or workshop. I switched to digital in 2000, which allows more experimenting, with instant feedback, so I can correct a shot immediately. My current camera is a Nikon D-90, with a 28-300 and a macro.
