I worked on this painting for 3 months in 2006, making a series of smaller watercolours on 12" x 8" 300 gm/ 140 paper, many of them on the river bank itself.
This magnificent salmon pool is called Polveir and is at Birkhall, below Balmoral Castle and belonged to Her Majesty The Queen Mother.
I donated the painting to the North Atlantic Salmon Fund under the direction of Orri Vigfusson of Iceland. It raised US$ 2,905.00 at auction in London's prestigious Portland Gallery. His Highness the Duke of Edinburgh viewed a copy of the painting and I was honoured to receive a letter from Her Majesty the Queen, from Balmoral, accepting no 1 of a limited editiion of gyclee artists proofs, (18 in x 13 in) restricted to 30 world-wide, of which only 12 are available. Priced at US$ 500 exclusive of secure package and airmail costs, each signed artist's proof is supervised by me - and comes with an original watercolour, signed by the artist (12" x 8") based on those from the Balmoral sketch book. I can be contacted on Forth@eim.ae
