Portrait of a dashing young buccaneer, wearing a black pearl in his left ear, caught in a laugh.
The title is after the painting 'Portrait of a Young Man as an Auctioneer', which hangs in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and was, until 1982, attributed to Rembrandt. Intensive research by the museum staff showed that the painting was not by Rembrandt himself, but by a member of his workshop between the years 1655-1660. It has always been a favorite of mine, Rembrandt or not.
