Artist's Description
My father made this engine when he was in his late teens/early twenties. In fact, he made two of this design. He took the motor to Pittsfield MA to GE and showed it to them and they hired him on the spot. He showed great potential. He only worked there a year and a half and then he got drafted to fight in WWII. When he came back his life had changed, he had changed. Today we call it PTSD. He was diagnosed as Manic Depressive. He made a pretty good life for himself and his family, despite that. Only, the thing he lacked was trust in other humans - love of other humans. He continued to purchase more machines and tools to help him make more machines and other tools. Some said he was a genius. In one of our arguments, I asked him, point blank, "Which do you love the most? Your family or your tools?" He couldn't or wouldn't answer me - I took that as his answer.

He asked me and I was ready to go. I think I wound up having 50 or more pieces for that show and I have never looked back. I think that show was in 2003, it could have been a little earlier. I kept painting and my...
