This was the first of two paintings that I did revolving around the Bones Brigade and their members (Mike McGill, Kevin Harris, Rodney Mullen, Tommy Guerrero, Mike Vallely, etc.). When I first started to draw as a child I began to draw logos of my favourite NHL Hockey teams which, at that age, I perceived as being one sport with many players playing different positions. When I found Skateboarding it was as if every skater played their positions so differently that they were no longer, comparatively, recognized as playing the same sport. I loved that! I quickly embraced that chaos, the culture, and lifestyle of Skateboarding. I would spend many dark nights under Street lights trying new tricks over, and, over, and over, again. Only to go inside and draw the skate graphics, and logos of my favourite teams and members from my many dog eared skateboarding magazines. I fell in love with skateboarding and Art because you didnt need a large group to do either, everyone did it differently, but you still felt like you were playing for a team somehow? In my world the Bones Brigade will always be Icons. They gave me and many others so much by merely doing what they love. I couldnt help but pay tribute to them by doing what I love most.
