Description
Prehistoric cannibalism. Artwork of a group of Homo antecessor early humans engaging in cannibalism. This scene is located in the Sierra de Atapuerca, Spain, where cave excavations in the Gran Dolina has found evidence of these practices. The evidence includes numerous cut and scrape marks on the human and animal bones at the site. These marks are evidence that tendons and flesh were removed from the bones with the use of stone tools. The findings here date to around 800,000 years ago. H. antecessor is an extinct species that forms a relatively recent part of the human evolutionary tree.
