I used a technique of successive masking of areas I did not want to paint, then pouring watercolors on the page and allowing them to mix. The painting was created in layers using this method. The original model was growing outside Stillwell's Store to the East of Big Bend National Park.

Marsha, my study of your Natural Abstractions and their presentation “as they are” remind me of the Eastern arts, “wabi-sabi”, and the sacredness of SEEing and appreciating everyTHING “as it IS”... The beauty of this Light painting lies in SEEing the Beauty and balances of the Organic ordinarinesses: the textures of Light within the prickly needles, the shapes and shadows of cactus....the composition within the detail of your SEEing, colours within LIFE” ...MASTERFUL... I also love how you freely gave your process...the series of masking, m pouring, ALLOWING the colours to mix. Your art is not necessarily In the painting, it is within the TEACHINGS of how to SEE And FEEL and SURRENDER to the Beauty Of LIFE!! LF...INSPIRED!...LF “Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include asymmetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes.“ Source, Wikipedia
