Description
An image of a prickly pear cactus (Opuntia humifusa) with several flowers on it. The prickly pear is known as a paddle cactus or nopales. interesting enough it has grown in poor sandy soil as far north as Ontario, and returns even after being exposed to extreme cold. They are very hardy cacti that do not only grow in deserts. The flowers on these cacti only last a day or two before closing up.

If this is your own plant, I am envious! I have these plants and I'm lucky if I get one bloom. L/Fav/Tw/G+

What a neat opportunity to see this great cactus bloom--if only for a very brief time! I don't think I have seen a capture quite like this showing such detail on the flowering and budding part of the cactus, Chris! Well done! Fave! L/F/FB/P!
