So gorgeous work.. wow

Great shot!Amazing view!Wonderful ,but dramatic occurrence! L/F

Very impressive photo Joyce!! I hope no one got hurt, or lost their homes!!! L

Beautiful capture of sunlight and shadows on this magnificent cloud, Joyce!!!

Joyce Dickens replied:

Dear Hanne, thank you so much! jd

Awesome capture...really can see the danger and power.

Joyce Dickens replied:

Thank you so much dear Nina!

Very dramatic, Joyce~~the bad and the beautiful...!!! An exceptional photograph, but certainly not what you want blocking out your mountain view! We've had many fires here in Canada, as well, and one right on the mountain above our property~ a lightening strike, too-- fortunately they got it under control before long! Another not too far south of here in Peachland in the last few days- hundreds evacuated! Sure hope your air quality clears up soon, the fires get contained and stay away from your property!!! F&V!

Joyce Dickens replied:

Will thank you my friend for the visit and lovely comment......today the air quality is much better, though most of the fires are not out, just under control....so when the wind shifts, we get smoke...today the sky is blue and gorgeous...thank you for the positive thoughts....jd

Beautiful and scary at the same time, Joyce! I was born and raised in Chico and have seen this before. Once when I was much younger I saw one of these clouds form over a fire where there was no wind to move the cloud away from the fire. The resulting rain (a bit more moisture in the air) helped put the fire out. A rare event indeed, and 'way before my passion of photography took control. You have captured a rare and fantastic event! Kinda happy it wasn't Mount Lassen erupting :) Really nice job!! F/V

Joyce Dickens replied:

Mick, thank you so much for the visit and lovely compliment....it is rare since we have fires up here every year, but this is the first time I have actually witnessed this type of cloud. I miss my view of Mt. Lassen but know it will be back soon.....take care! jd

oh wow, Joyce ... this is such a beautiful scene ... until I read your description ... and now of course, the beauty remains, but with a hidden and ominous note. I hope by today, the 30th, that the fires have simmered down in your area and that your skies are beautiful and blue and the air fresh again. f/v

Joyce Dickens replied:

Hi Lois my sweet friend....missed you! We still have a lot of smoke in the area, depending on the wind direction, but since the fires are under control it is much better, they are still burning but most of the damage has been done and they are finally contained.....so happy to see you and your lovely comment! jd

What a beautiful image....beautiful sky too! Thanks for your comments Joyce...sorry for late reply, i havent been around here lately..

Joyce Dickens replied:

Thank you so much Ellen....so nice to see you again! jd

It makes a great shot, but it's a cloud you would rather not see!

Joyce Dickens replied:

Exactly, Lynda; I would much rather have my view of Mount Lassen back....thank you so much for the visit and compliment! jd

I am so far behind Joyce I'll never catch up - lol. But I'm sure glad I came looking and found this beautiful piece. What a glorious sky and such a lovely setting. Just fabulous work my friend. xox F/V

Joyce Dickens replied:

As am I my friend.....no worries - thank you for the times you do stop bye, I always appreciate your lovely comments and insight ! jd

lovely work

Joyce Dickens replied:

Thank you so much Mark!

You have a beautiful view out your window, you must have been terrified you'd lose such beauty to flames...

Joyce Dickens replied:

Thank you Sharon, yes I would much rather have the view of Mount Lassen.....the fires are finally getting some amount of containment but still burning (about six are still doing some serious damage)....

Beautiful photograph Joyce! Those wildfires are scary. Thanks for the description. V/F

Joyce Dickens replied:

Thank you Bob, they are indeed, at one point last week we had 15 wildfires in the north state burning at the same time....very poor air quality and a lot of tension.....

I am the artist who ordered these items. I was disappointed with the fleece blankets. The image printed crooked on 4 of the 5 blankets and the 'plush fleece' is very different from the plush fleece blankets I ordered previously. No where near as 'plush'. These blankets were unsellable. Also, one of the tapestries showed up with a thread that was pressed right into the fabric which made it unsellable as well. The reason I didn't ship these items back was due to the fact that by the time I received the order, there was insufficient time to return the order in time to meet the '30 day' from the date ordered deadline. This is the first time I've been disappointed with an order featuring my art by way of FAA. Sadly, it makes me hesitant to order again.

Got my tapestry from german customs today. I SO love it! Just wonderful to see art that large.

Artist's Description

Captured looking out my living room window on 08 18 12....we have 15 major wildfires burning in the north state (California)......this one is about an hour from our place....usually looking out this way I see Mt. Lassen.....when this was shot we still had mostly good air quality and blue skies, since more fires have begun, our air quality is very poor and the smoke is blocking the sun.....no more blue skies until the fires are put out.....This particular fire was the result of a lightning strike. A pyrocumulus, or fire cloud, is a dense cumuliform cloud associated with fire or volcanic activity.

About Joyce Dickens

My name is Joyce Dickens and I work in Digital Photography. I like to refer to my work as Infused Artography. I have worked quite a while in photography but only since 2003, have I decided that this is what really brings me Joy and Purpose! I love photography and my camera has become an extension of me; I see beauty everywhere I look, and sometimes it will be the smallest thing that catches my attention and just begs me to photograph it; these things many times would go unnoticed. I feel blessed and am totally in awe of the beauty, which surrounds us, and everyday is like a new beginning, a new moment in time to share what I See with all of you. There was a time not that long ago, that I would say proudly that I do not edit my...
