The Quail are very interesting. The male is the scout, he watches out and gives signals to his mate, and if there are children, that it is okay to travel through. They scamper so quickly, with legs that move so fast that they almost appear invisible. He has a top not so he is easy to spot and he is have more markings and coloring than the hen which appears more subdued up next to his coloring. The come through our neighborhood either walking when its safe along fences, on the ground. If they feel threatened or on alarm, the will fly rooftop to rooftop following a well layed out trail that do follow day after day, almost like a ritual, and often at the same times of day. This male Quail is standing watch for his flock, that will show up shortly. This photograph was taken in East Sparks, in Nevada.
