Beautiful! I love all the colors and details!

Thank you. In some ways it is more fun to paint from memory than to be limited by the 'real' such as a camera captures!

Thank you, Len. I value your artist's eye and taking the time to visit and comment.

Wonderful work of art Elzbieta, Great story and art to match. v/f

Thanks so much, Renate. I never thought of it until now....that it is amazing that "details" can come from one's mind decades later. I know what German Shepard dogs look like more recently, but the streets are from early childhood.

A lot of details here amazing art-work...

Thanks a million. I went to your site....so engaging and so prolific!...so I could get to know you too. The bible said it...by your works ye shall know them. Who would have 'thunk it'.

Elzbieta, I love your style and the narrative. I will keep coming back to your site to see your wonder-filled works of art and to read the descriptions. You make me feel as if I know you through your paintings. F/V

Harriet, Thank you. I love this painting myself. It seems as if it was yesterday....the stores, the deli smells, and my coarse haired, beloved "Police Dog"... about as big as I was. Some great artists do not believe in narrative painting but I am thinking of doing more...for example, my grandmother on a rock at a picnic...in her Sunday hat and cloth stockings. Et cetera. Living in the moment is fine but so is living with memories!

Your art is unique and unusual and I so love how narrative it is. I was fascinated by the history of your family noted in your bio. This one has such an interesting perspective.

Thank you. To me you are one of the premier painters out of thousands and thousands on this site so I value your judgment so specially.

I am back to review this gorgeous piece of yours, still love it:-)! Thanks for sharing it:-)!

Thank you, Xueling. This is one of my favorite paintings. I kind of miss the city though I love wide open spaces.

Wonderful cityscpae, Elzbieta! Love the perspective and your color expression, gorgeous! Many thanks for your nice feedback on my "Beijing City 12", I do appreciate it!!

I love Jan's photographic artistry! She captures her images in such a masterful way. This photo looks great in my house and I am looking forward to adding to the collection. Having grown up in the north woods, I appreciate the Minnesota beauty that she captures so well with her lovely photographs.

Artist's Description

Before I was school age we lived in an apartment on Forsythe Street above a jewelry store. I loved the smell of the nearby deli food, the street vendors, the noise of the city, the quiet of the parks, the fire escapes, the people so different from upstate, and especially my dog, Queenie. When we moved to Scotia, my parents promised we would get her "someday" and I waited and hoped through two more moves...longer than a dog could live in physical form, but not longer than she could live in my heart.

About Elzbieta Zemaitis

This site is to honor my grandfather and my Lithuanian roots. My grandfather held me as an infant when we visited Hazleton, Pennsylvania. I never saw him again. My family was estranged - I guess that is the word - from my father's people for a long time. In my avid search for roots I could find my mother's German heritage back to the 1600s - Wagner, Feigt, Haase, Prahl, Keil and a dozen more - but nothing for Jamackl Finally a distant relative in New Jersey - an old woman in a nursing home - wrote me telling me that she knew my Aunt Margaret. My original name was Zemaitis. I cried when I received her letter. My father gave me a set of oil paints when I turned ten although we barely had money for food. Decades later - ...
