The name of this painting is Queeny and Her Chicks. It is an illustrative folk art style watercolor painting of purple quails with pink wings and green markings. The chicks are always following closely behind their parents running quickly on their little legs. I thought it would be fun to draw them stacked on top of their mom and each other in a totem pole style; representing how they stay in close contact with each other. I first drew the art in pencil and then painted in watercolor. I then applied Indian ink in areas that I felt needed to be emphasized. I have been drawing, painting, and crafting since I was a child. Living in Oregon where God provided color everywhere you look, along with rainy days to encourage a lot of indoor activites, I spent hours painting and drawing. Now that I have entered the empty-nester stage of life, I am blessed with additional time to focus on art.
