Raigad Fort is a hill fort situated in the state of Maharashtra, India. It was built by King Shivaji who made it his capital, during the period when India still had monarchy. The fort itself is in ruins now, but it makes an interesting place to visit and paint. A group of us visited Raigad and spent a few days there to paint landscapes, en plein air, in and around the fort.
This series of paintings have been done using Acrylic with palette knife on Canson water colour paper (300 GSM).
The urge to sketch, draw and paint has been there since childhood and I loved every minute of the time spent on drawing and painting. But, to take up painting as a full time career, was considered nothing short of fiddling on the roof. And maybe, in some sense it is true, particularly when there are practicalities of life to deal with. After two decades of a "real" job as a banker, I decided to quit banking and follow my heart, finally. This time I studied art from the Israeli artist Hagit Shahal, for four years, while I was living in Israel. I have not looked back since. Now I paint full time and I currently live in Mumbai, India.
