Description
The Original is for sale. This piece is FRAMED.
The mythic inspiration that triggered the literary talent of Edgar Allen Poe becomes visible in this noble representation of the Ravens Head. Durwood Coffey takes pencil in hand and demonstrates the art of drawing, while giving character and detail to the feathery head of this largest of all songbirds. The stories about the raven are legendary and this drawing begins to visually explain the reasons why. The large heavy bill of the bird, known to grab stones in order to break the shells of nuts, is a visual starting point in the artwork that leads one to the raven’s curious watchful eye and then flows downward into the sinewy plumage below. Through the simple usage of line and gray tones that create layer upon layer of shade and texture, bringing to life the massive bulkiness that makes this bird the largest of the corvine species, which include crows, magpies and blue jays. Long considered a subject of magical myth and lore to the native population of the Americana’s, this drawing of the “Raven’s Head” is a visual homage to that totem of literary mysticism.
