The artist is my son and is very talented. In high school he was accepted by Chicago Art Institute but couldn’t afford the tuition. He graduated from Fredonia State University with a Fine Art degree.
A red admiral butterfly, vanessa atalanta, at rest on a variegated privet bush in the wildlife garden. In order to breed they need nettles to lay their eggs on, and ivy flowers provide late season nectar. Found in N. America, Asia, and Europe, the UK contingent mostly overwinter in the Mediterranean region, being strong migrators. Apparently red admirals do not command fleets for the admiralty, the name being a corruption of the 18th century name red admirable.
Visual Art, what's it for? Decoration? Maybe, if we're lucky, to remind us how things seemed to us when we were children, -new, vivid, and truly astonishing. It's about renewal, learning to see again in the grinding everyday world. "Familiarity breeds contempt", the saying goes, -unfamiliar perspectives regenerate our sense of beauty...
