Product Review Image

I bought this in the greeting card form. I have been purchasing cards from Fine Art America for two or three years. Covid might have been some of the reason for looking for cards on the internet. Shops were closed. The main reason I buy cards from FAA is because I got tired of looking for cards at the usual card shops. I could find cards (sometimes) that looked good on the outside but the verses were terrible or it was the other way around...terrible on the outside but maybe a decent verse inside. I pick cards from FAA that fit with the occasion. I figure I can write something on the inside as good as any card company could. I wouldn't buy these cards if I didn't think they were wonderful. The cards are beautiful and excellent quality and the envelopes are equality as good. I am glad I can make a copy of what I've bought so I can keep track of who gets what card. I don't want to send the same card to someone twice. In this case, the card is going to someone for Mother's Day.

Artist's Description

A solitary red Anjou pear on a small antique wooden stool. Red Anjou pears have the same basic shape as the green Anjou pears. Whole these pears are sometimes mistaken for Red Bartletts, the difference is the red Anjou pears are nearly a solid red, almost maroon, in color.

Red Anjou pears show very little change in color as they ripen, the same as the green Anjou. The best way to test for ripeness is a gentle press of the thumb. If the slight pressure yields an indentation, the pear is ripe. To ripen, leave sitting in room temperature.

Red Anjous originated as naturally occurring bud sports found on Green Anjou trees. "Bud sports" are spontaneous, naturally occurring transformations that crop up on trees, and they are most often unnoticed. Red Anjous, however, are an exception. Actually, they are an exception that occurred twice, as the first red sport of Anjou was discovered in the early 1950's near Medford, Oregon, and a second red sport was discovered in the late 1970'...
