A single red poppy flower stands out in front of a field of blurred flowers near Silverton, Oregon.
Red poppies are beautiful, delicate, eye-popping blossoms that have a lot of symbolism when it comes to the armed forces. The are emblematic of honor and sacrifice of soldiers in the World Wars because they were the one flower to grow in the muddy, battle worn fields. In this case they are growing in a peaceful, fertile field in temperate Oregon.
