THE CAROUSEL IS 50 FEET ACROSS AND 54 FEET HIGH. IT WEIGHS 30 TONS. IT WAS BUILT IN PHILADELPHIA BY THE PHILADELPHIA TOBOGGAN COMPANY. IT IS KNOWN AS PTC 33 BECAUSE IT IS THE 33RD MACHINE THEY MADE. GREMAN IMMIGRANTS DID MOST OF THE CARVING AND PAINTING OF THE WOODEN HORSES. ORIGINALLY THE CAROUSEL WAS PRIVATELY OWNED AND COST $8500. TO BE BROUGHT AND ASSEMBLED AT THE STATE FAIR. IT HAS BEEN MOVED TWICE SINCE IT WAS PURCHASED AND THE COMO PARK CONSERVATORY SHOULD BE IT'S FINAL HOME.
