Photographic artwork by Cindy Treger. Photographed near Lake Meade, East Berlin, PA. This juvenile male ruby-throated hummingbird, Archilochus colubris, flew into our patio door and was stunned. I picked him up and held him while he perched on my finger. I placed my hand near a butterfly bush for him to fly into. Eventually he did, but not before peeing in my hand. He set there while I went and got my camera and he let me get very close for his photo session. He was unharmed because I photographed him later in the day. If a hummingbird gets on the ground it is very difficult for them to fly, so I am very glad that I was able to help this little guy. It is such a thrill to hold one of these amazing creatures.
I authored and included many of my hummingbird photos in a book titled "Ruby-throated Hummingbird Facts and Photos." It has many hummingbird facts that are sure to fascinate you. It is available through Amazon.
