A female Emerald Tau Dragonfly (Hemicordulia tau) alighted on the Rosemary bush in my garden.

In summer, the Rosemary bush attracts a variety of insects - a veritable smorgasbord for this dragonfly. The Emerald Tau has arrived before the sun hits the bush, which is when the other insects arrive - a cunning plan indeed.

Dragonflies are built for hunting. Each wing is controlled by its own set of muscles - Direct Flight Mechanism. To catch prey mid-flight, they are able to calculate the speed, direction and distance of their target.
