Description
No other flower cries out "Spring!" in the coastal mountains of North America and Asia like the rhododendron. They are common to the lowland and montane forests of the Pacific Northwest and the Appalachian Mountains of the east. They are the state flower of both Washington State and West Virginia where they are evergreens.
Rhododendron is also the National Flower of Nepal, the provincial flower in Jiangxi, China, and in tree form, the state trees of both Sikkim and Uttarakhand in India. This particular specimen was seen in the coastal forest of Washington State.
