Description
Rio De Las Vueltas, also called Gatica River, is a river located in the southwest of Santa Cruz province, in Patagonia, Argentina.
The only town on its margins is the town of El Chalten. It is called "Rio De Las Vueltas" because of the big meanders that the river forms during most of its course. This river belongs to the Santa Cruz River basin.
A significant portion of the waters of the Rio De Las Vueltas is glacial, partly from the melting of the glaciers of the northern end of Los Glaciares National Park. The river itself is born as drainage of Las Vueltas Lake Desert, at an altitude of 506 meters, and flows into Lake Viedma at an altitude of 250 meters.
