This is one of four light paintings sized to match as a polyptic. Each is a long-exposure photograph taken in the dark. The 'brush' is a slab of Rainbow (aka Banded) Fluorite.
Dave Markman is an artist and photographer living in Hartford, CT. His light paintings are unmodified long-exposure photographs of pure projected light. The "brush" is projected by various means; flashlights/torches, homemade light wands, photographs or sketches on an iPhone screen. Brushes may be as simple as a rock or leaf, or as intricate as the Ishihara Colorblindness tests. You'll find a step-by-step deconstruction of the painting "Portrait of an Orange" as well as the "Pure Light Manifesto" at davemarkman.com
