"Rodeo Clowns" is the name we USED to attatch to the men, dressed up in clown costume, working in the center areana of the Rodeo. The actual definition of a "Rodeo Clown" is: Rodeo bullfighters, also known as rodeo clowns, entertain fans with skits, jokes and acts with animals. As a bullfighter, you also have the serious duty of keeping angry bulls from harming bull riders, some of whom become disoriented or injured after a ride. If you don't mind stepping between a cowboy and a 2000 pound angry bull, then this job is for you!
A rodeo clown’s job doesn’t just stop at protecting a bull riding cowboy. In fact, this is only half their job. During the rodeo there are lulls and slow times. This is when a rodeo clown needs his other talents. Rodeo clowns have to keep the crowd amused. They need skits, jokes, and conversation ready to go. It takes comedic talent, energy, creativity, and a sense of humor. Clowns aren’t expected to just entertain with their funny painted smiles. They can use props, explosions, fireworks, or audience members.
