Marvelous work.

Ben Kotyuk replied:

Georgia, Thank you very much for your kind comment. Ben

Ben, I am the same way, I love to work at details, but I am trying to loosen up sometimes. I think 90% of my work fully detailed, and nothing I can do about that, I love details. Regards, Natasha

Love this work! fav+

Ben Kotyuk replied:

Natasha, Thank you for your favorite and comment. I am also a fan of more traditional art. I went to pastel to loosen up, but I keep coming back to the detail, maybe that is just how I like to see things. Ben

Truly amazing piece! VF

Ben Kotyuk replied:

Danuta, I always had a fascination for things accent, the mere fact that they are still standing, I find amazing. Thank you for your vote and favorite!

Wonderful work, Ben!! Love the stunning contrast of warm sand tones against the blue sky! Your railing detail is marvelous! Thank you for your thoughtful comment. v/f

Ben Kotyuk replied:

Thank you Hanne, for your vote, favorite and comment. I did the railing last, they made me a nervous wreck. Fine lines with pastels are not easy, a sharp edge gets wider instantly, pastel pencils in this case do more to remove color than put it down. I thought for sure I would ruin the painting. Finally I decided to just press the edge of a soft stick pastel against the paper in very tiny movements. There is actually more than one color on those rails. When I finished I was grateful I didn't wreck the painting, but I felt like I wanted to pass out. No fine railings since!

This work is tremendous, just like I remembered them while touring through Rome. Excellent and favorited

Ben Kotyuk replied:

Karen, Rome is one of my favorite cities, I've been there many, many, many times. Thank you for the favorite!

Ben Kotyuk replied:

Pamela, Thank you again for comment. Rome is such an amazing city, everything seems like a real life painting.

Love the build up with colour........wonderful light

Ben Kotyuk replied:

This was a gift, and the recipient loved it!

I have to split my rating into 2 categories, the image itself is beautiful and would be deserving of 4 stars. There are other issues that after I informed Finartamerica of was told were entirely the domain of the supplying artist, and these things deserve a zero star rating. There are two issues: the first is what appears to be a drop shadow effect being placed around the printed image. When viewed from any further back than 10-12" it gives the appearance of a blurred edge along two sides of the image, in contrast to the crisp edge on the opposite sides. The second issue appears to be a matter of poor cutting of the production sheets, or a misalignment of the image. As you can see in the attached exhibit, a repeat of the image is printed on one side (and only one side), along the outside edge of the canvas frame. I went back to the order page and did find a similar repeat on one of the virtual views of the print. I would have thought this to be a glitch in the way your site displays the images, I would have never guessed in a million years that you would ship something like that and expect your customer to pay $250 for it. I was offered the option to destroy the print and receive a refund, now I'm stuck in a difficult situation because I really like the image. I may end up getting it matted (to hide the blurred edge shadow effect) and framed (to hide the ridiculous image repeat along the outside edge). As we recently came back from Ecuador there is a lot of sentimental memory tied to this, being one of the few landscape painting of Quito I could find that goes well in our house. Otherwise, I'd take the money back.

This is our second beautiful canvas print from Ned Schuchter. If we had the appropriate spaces we’d buy everything he paints. His skill, imagination and attention to the smallest intricate details give us pleasure every day. Thank you Mr Schuchter! As always the delivery and quality from Fine art America are perfect.

Beautifully done! We love it! We chose a wrap around edge which is a mirror image which means we can see on one side, someone’s elbow again. But it’s a gorgeous large group portrait and we’re very happy with it.

Artist's Description

What struck me was the contrasts. The warm light against the cool damp shadows. The smooth texture of the still finished walls against the exposed old brick. Finally to be able to live in a contemporary interior surrounded by two thousand year old ruins.

About Ben Kotyuk

As a child I always had a propensity for drawing and building things. At the age of twelve and with the help of an insightful teacher, I was enrolled in an art school. After two years of exploring various creative disciplines, I focused on package/product design. Upon graduating, I went to work in a corporate art department. In those days, product design was not considered very important so it was begrudgingly handled as part of the advertising responsibilities. This meant I was also required to design ads and catalogs along with an array of promotional items. For the next eleven years I moved between large corporations and small design studios where I handled product design projects. Slowly over time, the importance of...
