Artist's Description
This composition is a tribute to the late Romare Bearden (1911-1988), the famous African-American artist, and references colors he often used in his work.Throughout history, the five-pointed star has stood for excellence and spiritual ideals. Hidden within the proportions of the five-pointed star are the Golden Mean and the principles of biological growth and form. This new series of star designs is based on hand-made kirigami (hand-folded-&-cut paper) designs that have been scanned and colorized digitally.

Well, all right then. I'll be the first to comment. First of all, I was drawn to Romarea Bearden Star because it is a strong graphic in my favorite color contrast. i like this composition very much. Second, I did not know of Romare Bearden and his work....so I googled him and my goodness! I love it!! very colorful! and human. Too late tonight to get into it more. But I will get into tomorrow (thank goodness I'm retired and have time)...Thank you Eric for this introduction. Bonnie K. Hill
Eric Edelman replied:
Thanks for your kind words, Bonnie. Bearden is a heavy hitter in the field of collage; a really imaginative and prolific artist. Very definitely a creator who drew upon many styles, ages, and ethnicities of art for inspiration. I don't know if I told you this before, but I often write about the history of collage. One of the things I do from time is to write a "Profile in Collage" (after Profiles in Courage, of course), a brief blog entry that focuses upon and discusses the collage work of a certain artist or group. Bearden is a collagist I profiled in March. You can see it at the following link: http://blog.retrocollage.com/romare-bearden-profile-collage/ Thanks again for your nice comment!
